Hailing from Memphis comes Young Herb, a member of the IRON MOUTH BATTLE LEAGUE who is destined for way more than just battle rap. Read our interview below:
I know you probably get this alot but do you have any connection to Lil Herb?
Lol no. Every1 askes me that question....i never met him b4.
So just a coincidence?
Yes lol i don't kno where his name came from but mine is my real name just abbreviated with young in front of it. I've been callin myself YOUNG HERB since 13 and I'm 25years old now.
Who would you say is your musical inspiration?
I've been inspired by many underground artist from my hometown such as slim'm and nonshalont. They are my family thru marriage and they both got really great potential always sittin back listening to them made me love music. But as far as signed and professional i must say T.i & Eminem they inspired me to always go for better than expectations. Striving to become great
Who would you like to work with in the future?
T.i hands down. Lol he is my absoulte favorite mc. I believe our styles could make an instant classic. I respect his grind and his music a lot.
What do you think sets you aside from other rappers?
I feel the thing that seperates me from other rappers is that I'm not just a rapper. Ima true MC i don't just limit my self to rap or just music in the studio. I have 14 battles on camera and i can also do pop music. I'm not afraid to step out of the comfort zone to become a great Artist.
What do you believe was your toughest rap battle?
My toughest battle up to date i would say was verses KD from stl street report. Our battle was very classic he came with sum great bars and delivery for it to be a away battle for him....of course i won but lol it was tough.
Lol, you seem pretty confident, who do you think is your biggest comepetition as far as battle rap goes?
Ummm ima say charlie clips as if i was already in the url which is the battle rap professional worlds most respected league. He is the greatest battle rapper out rite now in my opinion not saying that he's my favorite but i feel that he is the greatest as far as who he has beaten and battle against.
Who would you say is the most overrated?
Oh ok now I'm in the hot seat lol battle rappers be gettin sensitive when they get called overated.....if i had to choose i would say from URL Cortez is very overated his bars aren't really sum that i would say is sum that seprerates him from da fans. If any1 in the crowd can say what u are sayin u are not a great artist in my book...no shots just opinion lol. An from my home league IMBL (Iron Mouth Battle League) I would say the most overrated is grizz guru reason being is becuz he gets alot credit for winning the championship season1 but no1 realizes dat he was basic the only 1 in the tourney with recent battle rap history. So he basically was in the tourney with all rookies and season 2 he hasn't been giving any up incomers a shot. He's sittin on a high horse like he's to good to battle people without a name...basically playing it safe. I respect his talent but he's not acting like a champ seems like he does a lot of avoiding (should shrug) lol he gonna be mad when he see this but HOM. He da champ get used to me takin shots til i get mine.....we called ironmen for a reason. I got IRON HEART S/o Ac dutch & K-wine.
I'm pretty sure the ladies want to know, are you single?
Lol yes i am very much single. I'm looking for her (future voice) lol
What would her consist of?
I'm interested in women who are very supportive, understanding, strong minded, loyal, and has interest in music because that is my career. Beauty is a plus but its not a big factor for me....she has to keep herself together doe lol no butt ugly chicks....i like nice and fit or sexy and thick.
If you had to choose between Nicki Minaj, Beyonce or Rihanna, who would it be?
Nicki minaj...she's very sexy to me and i feel we would have more in common. Both rap and can also make hits outside of our genre. She seems exciting
What can we expect from Young Herb?
I've been doing alot of battle rapping lately. I'm booked Aug.30th in memphis IRON MOUTH BATTLE LEAGUE VS BEEPA, OCT.4TH IN NEW ORLEANS VS TUGGA BLUE, & NOV.15TH IN ATLANTA SPIT DAT HEAT S/O MILTOWN BLOE VS KILLA KEL. Me vs KILLA KEL on spit dat heat is on a main event card so it will definitely be my biggest battle up to date so I'm really lookin forward to that. Also my manager Lisa Jamar from jamar entertainment is working on me finishing my cd for a small 10 city tour. So I've been a real busy man lol
Young Herb also expressed his deep love for his fans because he would be nowhere without them.
